Listening list, October 2007

I FINALLY did get around to spending an hour and a half with my radio on the medium wave band and heard the following:

Tuesday 30 October 2007:

2120 GMT, 1530 kHz, Vatican Radio, Santa Maria di Galeria transmitters, Vatican City. Europe 1st Programme, English at tune-in (2120 GMT), launch of Spanish broadcast for twenty minutes followed by Arabic service programme.

2205 GMT, 1539 kHz, Evangeliums Rundfunk, Mainflingen transmitter, Germany. German language religion based programme, young voices singing 'Joy - all over the world'? Report from a lady of memories of the Thailand Tsunami.

2224 GMT, 1548 kHz, Magic, unconfirmed as Magic 1548 Liverpool or Magic AM Sheffield.

That's it for October, November will see a visit to the short waves, I hope!

Dontcha wish all football fans looked like this...?

BRISTOL CITY FC are currently in second place in the Chamionship and hope to make it in to the Premiership next May. Last season City were runners up in League One, gaining automatic promotion. City visited Carlisle United in League One on Saturday 21 April 2007 at Brunton Park and one of the City fans who contributed to the Carlisle United Message Board in April was Mia Olsen-Berg, pictured above. Mia and her friends watched the match at Brunton Park as part of a hen party weekend which started in Bristol, visiting Carlisle and ending in Newcastle upon Tyne, which is where the picture of Mia enjoying the party was taken, at 6am on a Sunday morning I believe! Mia was part of the Bristol City rumour mill earlier this year, with news that she may have been dating the City player Jamie McAllister. Mia has a basic MySpace web page, which Ihave linked to here.
Don't ya wish all football fans looked like Mia?

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry me home
I looked over Jordan and what did I see
Coming for to carry me home
A band of angels coming after me
Coming for to carry me home
(Chorus)
If you get there before I do
Coming for to carry me home
Tell all my friends I'm coming too
Coming for to carry me home
(Chorus)
If I get there before you do
Coming for to carry me home
I'll cut a hole and pull you through
Coming for to carry me home

(Chorus)
Sometimes I'm up and sometimes I'm down
Coming for to carry me home
But still my soul feels heavenly bound
Coming for to carry me home

(Chorus)
The brightest day that I can say,
Coming for to carry me home,
When Jesus washed my sins away,
Coming for to carry me home.

Autumn update

TWO months have passed since I last posted, so thought I would drop by to say "Hi!" and leave a few notes.

The main headline for the upcoming weekend is the sport on offer, top draw is the 2007 IRB Rugby World Cup Final in Paris, to be contested by England and South Africa - Come on England!

Lewis Hamilton is looking to crown his first season in Formula 1 with the Championship in Brazil, here's hoping England can have a double celebration this weekend!

Domestic football continues with Carlisle United at home against Gillingham FC, a match last season won 5-0 by Carlisle, more of the same please, Blues!

Finally I will wrap up this brief post with news of the completion of the first stage of the digital switchover in the UK, with Whitehaven in Cumbria having BBC2 analogue switched off at 2am October 17th. Full switchover in Whitehaven occurs mid November. Exciting times ahead!

More news, real soon.
