Wallpaper of the Week, 10 April 2016

WELCOME to another Wallpaper of the Week on Reporting From The Fox Tower.

The above image was taken at 1125 on the morning of Sunday 5 April 2015, during the second day of the Eden Classic Vehicle Group's Classic Commercial Vehicle Rally, held over the Easter weekend of 2015.
I have shared an image from the 2015 event, as the weather then was kinder than the 2016 Easter weekend.

If I remember rightly, the above vehicles were photographed at the rally site at Grand Prix Services, Brough.

Reporting From ... The Fox Tower!

A WHILE has passed since I first started this blog - November 2005, I believe - during which time the only photograph I have published of the Fox Tower itself is the profile picture in the top left of the page. Here is a nice image of the Tower, taken by myself in May 2013, when the landowners allowed visitors to reach the Fox Tower and neighbouring Bluebell Wood. I am pleased it was a beautiful, sunny day, which was very enjoyable 'up Helbeck' and provided great panoramic views. I do hope you are enjoying the weekend too.

Welcome to February!

WELCOME to another Wallpaper of the Week. Following the post regarding Penrith last week, I'm posting an image of back home, Brough. On closer inspection, the image may be a little blurry, as I had to use the zoom to achieve the image above. This image is from 25 May 2013, taken from Helbeck, the farming hamlet to the north of Brough. The Castle stands in the centre of the image, with the distant Wild Boar Fell, looming large, behind in the distance. Hope you enjoy this image.

Happy Olympic Torch Anniversary!

TODAY I have been thinking back one year, to Wednesday 20 June 2012, the date on which the Olympic Torch relay passed through Eden on its way to Carlisle. This posting marks the first anniversary of that day with links to media sites hosting videos, blogs and photographs of the Olympic Flame making its way through Cumbria for the first time. Click on the links below and enjoy a few memories.

  • The Olympic Flame in Appleby - Video from ITV Border - Click here.
  • The Olympic Flame in Penrith - Videos from ITV Border - Click here.

To provide fairness and balance in this post, the next link is to the BBC Torch Relay site. I'm not sure if the videos are still available, but you can read the blog of the day's events on the right hand side of the page - Day 33 of the Olympic Torch relay.
